Strengthening Resilience to Climate Change for the Elimination of Child Labour in Cocoa Producing Areas in Ghana
Objective:The project has an overarching goal of eliminating child labour in cocoa-producing communities by addressing its root causes through climate-friendly solutions to enhance sustainable livelihoods. It aims to eradicate child labour by advancing the Child Labour Free Zone (CLFZ) in cocoa producing communities as well as support Government of Ghana’s efforts to strengthen resilience to climate change through the introduction of biochar as a form of green technology. The project aligns closely with Ghana’s ongoing efforts to combat child labour, as outlined in key national policy and strategic documents. It supports the objectives of the National Plan of Action for the Elimination of Child Labour (NPA3) and the Ghana Child Labour Monitoring System (GCLMS), both of which emphasize the need for multi-sectoral collaboration, community engagement, and sustainable livelihood strategies. By focusing on child labour-free zones, capacity building, and economic empowerment, the project complements Ghana’s commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Target 8.7, which calls for the eradication of child labour in all its forms.
